Membership is the responsibility of ALL NAPUS members. The Committee on Membership should not hesitate to ask any Postmaster or Retired Postmaster to contact and visit another Postmaster for the purpose of explaining the benefits of belonging to NAPUS.
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITES:
1. The Committee on Membership shall consist of
the Membership
Chairman, the Chapter
Secretary-Treasurer, any Membership Co-Chairs appointed by the
Chapter
President,
And
the sixteen District vice-Presidents.
2. NAPUS National Office will send
a list
of all new Postmaster appointments to the Chapter
President and Membership Chairman as soon as they are announced. The National
Office
will also send a packet of information to the newly appointed
Postmaster.
3. The districts will send a list
of all
newly appointed OICs to the Membership Chairman
and
the Chapter President.
4. The Membership Chairman will
determine
whether or not the new Postmasters and
OICs
are members of NAPUS and will send out a membership packet that
includes
an
1187
with a return envelope to all of the non-members.
5. The Membership Chairman will
send a
list of these non-members to the District Vice
Presidents in whose district the office is located.
6. The District Vice Presidents or
Area
Directors will make a personal visit or a phone call
during the
first week that the new Postmaster is actually in office.
He/she will explain
the
benefits and goals of NAPUS, how the District, Chapter, and the
National
Officers
function and why all Postmasters need to join.
An extra 1187 should be taken and the
new
Postmaster encouraged to sign up immediately.
7. District Vice Presidents or Area
Directors will also contact all new OICs in their districts
and explain
Associate membership in NAPUS. All
PMRs are also invited to join NAPUS
as an
Associate Member.
a. An OIC may join only while
serving in
that capacity but may continue as an associate
member when the detail ends.
PMRs may join at any time and may continue as an
associate member when the detail ends. PMRs
may join at any time and may continue
as an associate member as long as they continue to pay dues.
b. Associate membership may be
maintained
indefinitely by paying associate dues at
the beginning of each year when billed by the National Office.
c. An associate member is entitled
to all
regular member privileges except voting at
conventions and the use of convention leave other than during
OIC
assignments.
These
privileges include
the right to attend District Meetings, National and State
Conventions, full use of the NAPUS Credit Union, any NAPUS
insurance and
any other
Available programs.
d. OIC, PMR,
Associate and Retired Postmaster member dues are $42.00 per year,
payable by check or cash and are tax deductible.
Dues may also be paid by payroll
deduction for active Postal Service employees and by annuity
deduction
for retirees.
e. The Chapter Membership Chairman will
maintain a supply of forms for payroll or
annuity deductions. For
cash payments, the following information must be sent to
the Chapter Secretary-Treasurer:
Name
Social Security Number
Home mailing address
Office being served as OIC/PMR
8. Once a month, the Chapter
Membership
Chairman will write an article for the state
publication
that will
include the list of new members and the office to which they are
attached.
9. Chapter Officers and members of
the
Postmasters Retired should also be actively
involved in the membership effort for both active and retired
Postmasters.
